Props to The Grocer.
Walking through Chicago's Wicker Park this weekend, I noticed some street art that totally blew me away. Not just because of the skill - there are a lot of talented artists in Chicago, city of art school grads (School of the Art Institute, Colombia College, etc) - but because of the content and the name of the artist: THE GROCER. I'm a sucker for anything food-related, and The Grocer's work really rubs me in just the right way...what is that annoying expression we use in the food industry? Oh yeah -- The Grocer's work has 'appetite appeal'. At least for me.
I first noticed the asparagus a few days ago when I was driving by (as I realized during my googling, these have been up for a while now, I'm just slow to discover things):
I then spotted the kiwi fruit during my walk, across from Sultan's Market:
and then there's the beet:
So I did a quick search and found a few links to The Grocer. According to his Flickr page, the grocer is a he and he takes requests for different fruits and vegetables and other non-packaged products. He also accepts commissions and sells his art. He's been mentioned on a few websites, too, like juxtapoz.
For more info, check out The Grocer's Website.
