Hello Morning Glory!
I love the Morning Glory Bakery. It fills me with paroxysms of joy every time I'm in Bar Harbor, which is about once every five years. Everything is made from scratch (a requirement for me to even set foot in an establishment...though I'm sure I've misstepped in the past and I'll misstep again) and most of the ingredients are natural, organic, local, and/or a combination thereof.
They are so proud of their values and relationships with local producers that they let their customers know via chalkboard. I'm sure a lot of people had no idea they could get fresh milled whole wheat locally.
And here's the roster of local farm suppliers.
Morning Glory carries coffee from Rock City Coffee Roasters in Rockland, ME. I've been to their shop in Rockland and I've loved what I've had. I don't think I tried this particular blend, however, which has a name a touch, uh, too grateful for my taste.
And the baked goods? Delicious. Homey. Simple. Classic American. Pies. Bars. Breads. Cupcakes. There were a few pieces of pie left when we visited the bakery. I love pie, but I had already determined at that point that I would make my own later that week.
They also had some splendid-looking cookies and bar cookies:
That day I decided to go off my gluten-free diet and I splurged at the bakery. I had a piece of chocolate bundt cake. I'm pretty sure the nuts and chocolate weren't local but it was moist, chocolately, and delicious.
Can't wait for my next visit.
Mmmm. I'll have to check it out when we're there in late Sept...
